Abstract

We present a case of pulsed radiofrequency treatment (pRF) of lumbar posterior medial branch (PMB) in a 68 yearold male patient suffering from several month-long pain in low back, left groin, and posterior thigh, which is associated with chronic facet joint syndrome. Despite oral medications with concurrent trigger point injections at a local medical clinic, the symptoms did not improve. On referral to our department, fluoroscopy-guided pRF of PMB was performed. The relief of the symptoms was achieved and lasted for 7 months after which the symptoms recurred. In conclusion, pRF provides clinically favorable results in the treatment of facet joint pain without producing complications and side effects associated with conventional radiofrequency thermocoagulation.
