Abstract

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), is currently a worldwide pandemic and has become the most important global health problem. Rapid and accurate detection of SARS-CoV-2 in patients¡¯ samples is essential for the diagnosis, isolation, and treatment. Real-time reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction assay in respiratory samples is the most widely used laboratory diagnostic method and is regarded as the gold standard test for COVID-19 diagnosis. This article is to review the currently used laboratory diagnostic tests for the diagnosis of COVID-19.
