Abstract

본 연구의 목적은 식품미보장이 일반적 사회신뢰에 미치는 효과를 살피는 데 있다. 자료는 한국복지패널 6차 및 7차 조사자료를 병합해 구성하였다. 분석방법으로는 식품미보장이 개인수준이 아닌 가구수준에서 측정된 점을 감안해 다수준 구조의 자료의 분석에 흔히 쓰이는 일반화선형혼합모형을 활용하였다. 분석결과 식품미보장은 일반적 사회신뢰 수준에 통계적으로 유의미하게 부정적인 영향을 미침을 확인할 수 있었다(p<0.01). 본 연구의 조사결과는 배고픔이나 영양실조가 한 개인에게 육체적·정신적·사회적 기능 손상을 일으키는 미시적 문제인 동시에 사회 전체의 신뢰형성과 구축에 심각한 제약요소가 되는 거시적 이슈라는 점을 시사한다. 따라서 일반적 사회신뢰 수준을 제고하기 위해서는 기존의 잘 알려진 정책적 대응과 함께 식품미보장 문제를 해결하려는 전방위적인 노력이 병행되어야 할 것이다.

The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of food insecurity on generalized social trust. Data were obtained from Wave 6 and 7 of the Korea Welfare Panel Data. Given that the dependent variable, food insecurity, was measured not at the individual but at the household level, the study adopted generalized linear mixed models commonly used for analyses of data in multilevel structure. Results showed that food insecurity is a statistically significant negative predictor of generalized social trust(p<0.01). The findings suggest that hunger or unbalanced nutrition is not simply an individual problem associated with physical, psychological and social impairments but also a macro issue to be addressed at the societal level because of its possibility to deter building generalized social trust. Consequently, efforts to promote food security should simultaneously follow well-known policy responses in order to increase the level of generalized social trust.
