Abstract

The implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) is widely used to improve survival in patients at high risk of sudden cardiac death (SCD). Several clinical trials have established the role of ICD therapy for prevention of SCD. The revised indications for ICD therapy were noted in the ACC/AHA/HRS 2008 guidelines for devicebased therapy of cardiac rhythm abnormalities.
