Abstract

Cardiac rhythm devices are widely used for bradycardia, tachycardia, and congestive heart failure. The techniques for their implantation are essentially similar, even though they are directed to achieve different goals. Although the fundamentals of the implantation technique are well established, there remain many related issues about which further understanding is needed; these include the preparation of the patient, continued administration of anticoagulants, the lead position, and techniques to avoid device-related infections.
