Abstract
As the number of case with cardiovascular implantable electronic devices (CIED) including permanent pacemakers (PPM) and implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICD) has increased, the incidence of CIEDassociated infection has also increased. Bacteremia and/or endocarditis related to implanted endocardial leads are the most serious complications of CIED infection, leading to increased morbidity and mortality. The most common bacteria causing lead endocarditis are Staphylococci. Here, we describe a case of ICD-infected endocarditis involving the tricuspid valve with positive blood cultures for Staphylococcus aureus in a patient who underwent generator re-implantation at the contralateral site because of a previous device infection. The patient was successfully treated with surgical extraction of the entire systemin conjunction with tricuspid valve replacement and antimicrobial therapy.
